A strange coalition became evident on college campuses in protests over Gaza. After the now infamous October 7 genocidal Hamas attack on Israel that murdered 1200 civilians, and Israel’s strong military response, the woke left, champions of transgender rights and rainbow diversity, have joined the Islamist activists in supporting Palestine and opposing Israel. Some have even endorsed Hamas and full blown anti-Semitism. With America and the entirety of Western civilization as the common enemy, one might expect some cooperation. But this is one marriage that will end up in a bloody divorce.

Examining these two groups reveals stark contrasts. The woke left are Marxist in basic philosophy, decidely atheistic and anti-religion. Their zealotry is one of Marxist materialism, radical feminism and anti-white racism. Intersectional victimhood is the preferred badge of courage. Their DEI agenda claims tolerance and inclusion for all fringe cultural expressions included in the ever-expanding LBGTQI+ model. The woke left see most religions, especially Christianity, as restrictive and intolerant and as purveyors of colonialist white patriarchal supremacy.

On the other hand, the Islamists are fundamentalist Muslims who submit to only Allah. As embodied by the Muslim Brotherhood, they are strongly religious, abide by strict Sharia law and believe in theocratic religious government and rule known as the caliphate. Their views of women are very strict, what most in the modern West would consider severely oppressive and backward. Islamists see the permissiveness of the West as a terrible moral threat and have a severe zero tolerance policy on everything LGBTQI+.

Wokesters want transgenderism and every other faction of the ever-growing LGBTQI+ to fly their freak flag. Their idea of feminism includes men in dresses. They see Christian patriots as the doomslayers of raindow democracy that must be stopped at all costs. Family values are intolerably tyrannical barriers to the freedom of perversion. Wait until they get an up close look at the fundamentalist Islamists.

The Islamist idea of feminism is women being covered head to toe in black and existing as the property of men. The Islamist version of women’s sports is stoning women to death for infidelity. There are no LGBTQ or I anywhere in Islam. Period. If any such person is discovered, he or she gets a one way trip off the nearest tall building. The wokesters want no police and set criminals free on the streets. Islamists cut off the hands of thieves, the heads of apostates, and have religious police patrolling the community to enforce Sharia religious law on their citizens. In Islamic countries, all non-believers are at best second class citizens who pay extra taxes or at worst are exterminated for sport.

While both groups see the Western Judeo-Christian civilization as the enemy, this isn’t a religious war in the pure, traditional sense. This is not the Islamic armies sweeping across the eastern Holy Roman Empire bringing conversion or death to all they encountered. Nor is it the Catholic Inquisitions with their horrific purity tests, or the many Catholic vs Protestant Christian battles that dealt more death to Christians yet always in name of Jesus. Some of these insanities do still take place, like the absurd millennial-long sectarian battles in the Middle East between the Shiites and the Sunni, two Muslim groups whose basic animosity toward each other traces back to the bloody disagreement on the proper successor line of leaders to Muhammad nearly 1400 years ago.

Nothing inherently religious unites these seeming disparate groups together. Nothing about their obvious ideology underpinnings matches up. But there is a commonality. The woke left and fundamental Islamists march to the beat of the totalitarian mind set. Both are dedicated to the proposition that their forms of purity can and must be forced down the throats of unbelievers for their own good. Freedom and diversity of thought is the common enemy that rallies their troops to action.

The censors of DEI are little different than the religious police in Saudi Arabia. They may follow a different script, but their essential action is the same. Knowing what is “best” for everyone else and the willingness to bring every form of force to bear upon accomplishing that defines the totalitarian.

DEI indoctrination campaigns in business, schools and government punish non-believers and frighten the rest into silent compliance. Say the wrong thing and you are flushed out of the system. The woke online trolls scour the net for offenders who are disappeared by being fired, debanked, de-voiced, sued or even jailed. The totalitarian left would like nothing better than to have the full force of Big Brother exact compliance and punish dissent.

Eighty percent of Palestinians support a murderous terrorist group like Hamas despite Hamas diverting all money to terrorism and leaving most Gazans in poverty. Islamists indoctrinate their children to hate Israel and America from the moment they can talk and all through school. The Islamist government rewards the families of suicide bombers who kill lots of Jews and celebrates them as heroes of the jihad. The Oct 7th massacre in Israel where where women were raped and the elderly and babies alike were slaughtered saw proud young Palestinian men texting pictures of dead Jews back to their families in Gaza so all could share in celebrating the slaughter. In a fashion eerily similar to their woke counterpart on the net, religious police in Saudi Arabia patrol continously for violations among the citizens, and bring swift retribution to any found, up to and including the death penalty. Every year dozens of offenders are publicly put to death.

Imagine if we extrapolated into the future a successful campaign that finally destroys the West and any other contenders for global dominance, and leaves only these two groups to vie for power. The clash would be cataclysmic. Marxist totalitarian wokism vs theocratic totalitarian Islamism would be a bad Japanese B movie like Godzilla vs King Kong.

It just goes to show that totalitarian bloodlust knows no ideological bounds. While we might individually hope for a marriage made in heaven, the joint venture of Islamists and leftists seen on university campuses is a match made in hell.

And that’s the simple truth.
